Brief Introduction
Led by Shuyuan Ji and sponsored by RIT Magic Spell Studio, this team project researched mocap animation and production pipelines. The outcome included research documentation and pipeline guidance so more students can benefit from motion capture animation technology. Other team members included researcher Wenpeng Liao and 3D artist Kaijie Yang.
Project Focus
Based on MAGIC Spell Studio's mocap lab, we researched the Vicon pipeline, including using Livelink to retarget Vicon characters to a Metahuman skeleton in realtime and drive interaction inside UE scenes. We built a simple interactive game demo that received hundreds of views and nearly one hundred play sessions at Imagine RIT. We also explored how to convert Vicon mocap assets into production-ready assets, including improving recording quality through configuration files and scripts in Vicon and cleaning jitter through Maya's graph editor.
